Edinburgh, Scotland (PRWEB) June 2, 2005 -- Bearded Frog Software, makers of Enlarger PRO, a professional-grade digital photo enlargement solution are pleased.
Hi Gang, I was curious, so I staged a comparison of five different softwares which one uses to enlarge a bitmap, in order to see which algorithm gave us the best enlargement. Something important to us C4D users when it comes to enlarging pictures into higher-res textures or HDRI's or possibly when enlarging our own final renders. Something to add. Because Bearded Frog is reducing the amount of noise within the source, isn't it also reducing the image quality?
The same applies to dv footage for example. When a denoiser is used to reduce grain/noise the image begins to look 'plastic', if you know what I mean. Sure it looks better to most people (myself included), nonetheless, the image is softened, therefore degrading the overall quality. You can even see how it produced a 'blockiness' as it removes the noise. Photoshop's enlarger does a great job; it preserves the original grain very well.

Hi there, We have since updated the TIFF file handling to eliminate the warnings about unrecognised tags. Thanks for the help. Yours, Bearded Frog Software. Anonymous Member Icon Review. Actually, it's extremely similar to the result OnOne Genuine Fractals produces. If you look closely (at the larger tiff image) there is already noise within the original and it's still apparent when blown up to 300%.
Personally, if the noise really bothers me that much, I'd rather have the option of reducing the noise myself as opposed to the enlarger doing it for me. As far as the skin is concerned, I can't tell if Alien Skin or Photoshop does a better job preserving the skin tones. I think the source image has some black values scattered throughout the image and if that's the case, I think I like Alien Skin's enlarger too. Just my two cents.
