Select a boogie board suited to your height and weight. When standing on its tail, the board should reach to within 1 in (2.54 cm) of your belly button.
As for width, you should be able to hold the board under your arm and against your side without much slack between your armpit and the edge of the board. • Choose a bodyboard shorter than 40 in (101.6 cm) if you are shorter than 5 ft 6 in (167.6 cm) and weigh less than 130 lbs (59 kg). • Choose a bodyboard between 40 and 43 in (101.6 and 109.2 cm) if you are between 5 ft 7 in and 6 ft 3 in (170.2 and 190.5 cm), and weigh between 130 and 210 lbs (59 and 95.3 kg). • Choose a bodyboard taller than 44 in (111.8 cm) if you are taller than 6 ft 3 in (170.2 cm) and weigh more than 210 lbs (95.3 kg).
That's not the best time of year, but basically you're looking for southern swells. I'm only familiar with the BI, and spots, so I'll let other people chime in about. Overall I'm going to say in summer your best bet is Oahu. It has some good sandy southern spots like, well, Sandys, which is fine if it's not too big, Queens near Kapiolani. Near Diamondhead too there's a couple of great breaks but I think they're mostly reef and rocks, but not too difficult.
On the Big Island there's town which has Magics and some other good spots. Kauai has Brenneckes, which my 10-year old surfer girl absolutely loves, she's pick that every time if you gave her a choice for summer waves. It's a small beach but barrels are pretty awesome and there are lots of young people there. Depending on how much time you have, I'd divide it between Oahu and Kauai probably, for lots of reasons including summer bodyboarding. Well, in winter you get the big north swells that produce some really spectacular and fun waves around the state, sometimes actually too big. But it's great like right now for the kids when you're getting those head high barrels all over the place at the popular north sights. But south can be great in summer, just depends.
In fact, summer may be best for novice and moderate skill bodyboarders, especially on, and also gives less expert bodyboarders a chance to go to Sandys, etc. On which are generally too big in winter for most. The 10-year old just reminded me to tell you about Kalapaki Beach and Kealia Beach for summer bodyboarding on Kauai. She's a Kauai girl at heart.:-p.

Don't want to argue with anyboody. But Oahu has the best surf, for all types, board, body and bodyboard.
And summer is considered the best time of year for solid bodysurfing and body boarding waves on the best breaks. In addition to those named, and do be careful if it is pumping at Sandys or Makapuu, check-out: Waimanalo Bay State Recreation Area, on the lower windward side. And it can be downright fantastic at times. Pounders at Laie Beach Park (Pounders Beach) across from the PCC. Scenic location and a unique break, due to outlying reef structure, that excells in getting the wrap-around swells whether in Winter or Summer.
