The 3.1.2 version of RoboType is provided as a free download on our website. Our antivirus check shows that this download is malware free. The following versions: 3.1, 3.0 and 2.2 are the most frequently downloaded ones by the program users.

RoboType is included in Office Tools. Commonly, this program's installer has the following filename: RoboType.exe. The actual developer of the software is Ziff Davis Media, Inc. Do you find yourself typing the same phrases and paragraphs over and over?

Perhaps you prepare business documents that contain paragraphs worded in a standard way. Or maybe you're a technical support provider and repeatedly receive the same questions in email. Or maybe there are certain long and complicated URLs that you find yourself needing to give out all the time. Some programs have macro expansion facilities, but not all.

You could save your reusable text in a document and cut and paste from there, but that approach is clumsy. Active which enables and disables RoboType. If disabled, RoboType will not monitor what you type. Hotkey which allows you to assign a keyboard combination that will toggle RoboType to active or inactive. Advanced Options which provides more control over RoboType.

The Advanced Options dialog looks like this. From this dialog you can choose the search method that you would like to use Auto or Manual. By default RoboType is set for Auto mode. In Auto mode RoboType looks at the words as you type them to see if there's a match.

If there is, it replaces the abbreviation. In Manual mode, the user must select the abbreviation and copy it to the clipboard. As soon as this happens RoboType looks at the abbreviation and either replaces the abbreviation in the document or replaces contents of the clipboard so that the user can paste it in for himself. Depending upon which mode you choose, different options will be available to you. NOTE: It is highly recommended to use Auto mode.

The program was really designed to fulfill the requirements of Auto mode. Manual mode is provided for users of prior versions who prefer this method. Auto Mode Options There are two options for Auto Mode. • Select to not append a trailing space after typing an expansion. When you hit the spacebar after typing an abbreviation the replacement text replaces the abbreviation. The space at the end is maintained. However with this option selected, the space will be removed Please Note: Microsoft Word automatically removes the space so this setting has no affect in Word.

You define abbreviations for the words, phrases, and paragraphs that you frequently retype and RoboType 3 does the rest, replacing your abbreviations with the expanded text. This latest update of RoboType includes numerous enhancements.

A new 'groups' feature lets you organize your abbreviations by category. The new 'tag' feature lets you use variables such as date and time when defining the expanded text. In addition to the larger enhancements, you'll many smaller refinements throughout the program. RoboType 3 was written by Gregory A.
